Congo Squares

    Ingredients

    3/4 cup shortening
    1-lb. box brown sugar
    3 eggs
    2 3/4 cup flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 cup broken nutmeats
    6 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate morsels

    Directions

    Melt shortening in large saucepan.  Add brown
    sugar; mix well.  Cool slightly.  Add eggs, one at a
    time, beating well after each addition.  Sift flour,
    baking powder and salt together; add to mixture in
    saucepan.  Mix well.  Add nuts and chocolate
    morsels; pour into 2 greased 7 x 11-inch pans.
    Bake at 325 for 25 to 30 minutes; cut into squares
    when almost cool.
