Apple Fingers

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup shortening
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1 cup applesauce
    2 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    2 cups flour, sifted
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 cup oleo
    2 cups powdered sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon

    Directions

    Cream together shortening and sugars.  Add
    eggs, applesauce, lemon juice, vanilla, and
    extract.  Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.  Put
    into greased 15 x 10-inch pan.  
    Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes.
    Melt oleo.  Combine with powdered sugar and
    cinnamon (and a little hot water to thin).  Spread
    thinly over bars.  Cut to desired size and decorate
    with little red hot candy on each bar, if desired.
